Scathing Tottenham youth review of Harry Kane branded him as ‘basically Steven Fletcher’

Harry Kane was Tottenham’s hero again over the weekend as he netted the only goal in the Lilywhites’ clash with Manchester City.

Kane’s strike was his 267th for Spurs, more than any other Tottenham player in history, sending him clear of Jimmy Greaves. While, Kane is undeniably one of the best strikers on the planet these days, it hasn’t always been like that.

When the Englishman first burst onto the scene in the 2014/15 season, he was labelled as a ‘one-season wonder’. However, there was far worse criticism waiting for him when a Spurs fan site delivered a youth report of Kane in 2013.

The youth report was penned before he made his Premier League debut, and it suggested he could become a “capable Premier League striker”.

The report then goes on to compare his ceiling to Steven Fletcher, who is best remembered for his spell at Sunderland in the early 2010s. It suggested Kane is a “guy that can go out and score 12-15 goals for a mid-table team”.

It’s fair to say Kane has surpassed all those expectations.

Kane is already looking for his next record: “Alan [Shearer] has set the record to beat. I’ll see if I can beat it,” said Kane, who is on 200 Premier League goals.

“I’m sure he’ll [Shearer] be watching but I’m not sure if he’ll be happy or not! I’ve got plenty of goals to come, I’m feeling good.”
