Amazon’s newest Kindle E-readers are on sale right now, and most of them are the cheapest they’ve been since their release dates last year. If you’ve been holding off on upgrading your e-reader or want to try one for the first time, now is a good time to take the plunge.

There are five Kindles discounted right now. Each of them offers a lot of the same basic features, but the higher tier models have new features that might be worth checking out. Two of the Kindles are promoted as kids’ models, but they’re actually the same as the adults’ version but with a default kids’ software that is removable. They also offer extra features that make them better deals overall. Here are your options:

All-new Kindle (with ads) – $75

This is the most basic Kindle model, released in fall of 2022. It usually retails for $100, but it’s 25% off at the moment, the cheapest price it has been since its release, according to Camelcamelcamel price history data. The basic model is not waterproof and doesn’t have “adjustable warm light,” according to Amazon’s features breakdown. However, you actually might get a better deal with the kids’ version of this model.

All-new Kindle Kids – $85

The All-new Kindle Kids model is also at its lowest price per Camelcamelcamel, and is basically the exact same device as the basic All-new Kindle, but with more to offer. This kids version brings you a free case (about a $25 value), an ad free experience ($2o value), 1-full year of Amazon Kindle Kids + subscription ($36 value), and a 2-year warranty (as opposed to the 1-year from the non-kids version). All that value is just $10 more than the “adult” version.

The main difference is that it has the kids’ mode feature turned on as its default. However, you can easily turn it off in the settings. The cases for these kids model are obviously tailored for kids, but if you don’t mind it, the case is still free (I personally think the whale one rocks). The Amazon Kindle Kids + subscription will charge you automatically after the year, but you can cancel it. And if you don’t like the kid’s default software, you can always turn it off. However, it has some cool features even adults would appreciate (like the awards feature), as this video explains it:

Can adults use the Kids Kindle Paperwhite?

Kindle Paperwhite (8 GB with ads) – $105

This is the Paperwhite version, one tier up from the basic All-new model. The main differences are that it is waterproof, and you can adjust the light for reading at night. You can see Amazon’s comparison of features from the other versions here. This one is 25% off and at one of its lowest prices, as can be seen in Camelcamelcamel’s price history. However, you can get more bank for your buck with the kids’ version for the Paperwhite as well.

Kindle Paperwhite Kids (8 GB) – $110

Like the basic All-new Kid’s version, the Paperwhite kids’ edition also offers a better deal. Out of all the Kindles available right now, this is the most discounted as well. It is 31% off right now, although it did reach the slightly lower price of $105 during Black Friday, according to Camelcamelcamel’s price history. Unlike the basic kids’ Kindle, you can actually get a slick, black case with this one that comes included in the deal (a $30 value). You also get the ads free, the full year of Amazon Kindle Kids + subscription, and the 2-year warranty, all for $5 more dollars than the “adult” Paperwhite version. If you can put it up with remembering to delete the one-year subscription, this is a “no brainer,” as this video explains.

Best Value Kindle – Kindle Paperwhite Kids Edition

Kindle Paperwhite Signature – $140

The Paperwhite Signature version is the highest Paperwhite Kindle tier (outside the Kindle Oasis and the Kindle Scribe). It offers more storage with 32 GB, an auto-adjusting light feature, so you don’t have to manually change it in settings, it is ads-free, and has wireless charging. It is not at its lowest price according to Camelcamelcamel’s price history (it reached $130 on Black Friday), but it is still 26% discounted from its usual $190 price point. There is no kid’s version of the Signature to take advantage of.
