Met Office issues UK weather warning as freezing fog alert hits huge part of the country

A yellow alert for fog has been issued by the Met Office due to the effects it’ll cause Brits across the country.

The freezing fog will result in reduced visibility, with the warning set to be in place from 3am until 11am on Wednesday morning (February 8).

Delays to travel is expected by the national weather service with slower journey times of bus and train services likely.

Forecasters also say that flight cancellations are a real possibility.

Regions of the UK that the warning covers includes London, Oxford, Bath, Exeter, Cardiff, Coventry, and Cambridge.

Wednesday (February 8) will see the spread of the freezing fog, with visibility to drop to levels as low as 50 to 100 metres.

The north of Scotland Is also being issued a yellow wind warning due to south-westerly winds causing not only travel delays but dangerous coastal conditions which residents have been warned about.

Coastal communities and sea fronts are likely to be affected by large waves as the Met Office wrote on how strong the winds are expected to be.

They wrote: “South to south-westerly winds will strengthen early Wednesday to bring a very windy day, with the strongest winds occurring late morning, and into the early afternoon.

“Gusts of 65-70mph are expected quite widely, with some gusts around 75mph especially during a period of squally rain which will cross the area during the early afternoon.

“Winds will then ease considerably following the rain.”

Just on Tuesday (February 7), London was covered by a thick layer of freezing fog which resulted in 23 flights that were heading for Amsterdam and Florence, being cancelled at London City airport.
