Randy Brits ditch perfume for sex toys this Valentine’s Day as saucy sales soar

People could be in store for a very saucy month as randy Brits are ditching perfume for sex toys this Valentine’s Day.

New data revealed Brits are swapping fragrances for vibrators, with searches for sex toys soaring by +1500% compared to this time last year.

With the big day less than one week away, new demand tracking data from idealo.co.uk revealed the demand among the most popular Valentine’s shopping category, perfumes, has plummeted by almost a quarter this year.

The research also found searches for “vibrators” have increased by 74% year on year, and searches for “sex toys for men” are up by 28%.

To understand more about these changing consumer habits, pricing specialists at idealo also delved into its price history data, and found the average price of perfume is rising, while sex toys are getting cheaper.

One top-selling vibrator is being picked up for as little as £14, so pleasure is actually cheaper than smelling nice.

Comparing the price data of idealo’s 10 best-selling sex toys from 2022 to 2023, specialists also found 70% of products have decreased in price by 15% or more in the last year.

Romp Shine with 6 vibration levels has dropped from £44.00 to £25.00, so there’s been a 43% decrease.

Satisfyer Men Vibration has been reduced from £27.00 to £17.00, which marks a 37% drop.

Meanwhile the Lelo Tiani 3 has gone from £98.00 to being reduced to £65.00, which means it’s decreased in price by 33%.

Saucy shoppers can also bag the Satisfyer Partner Whale for as little as £14.

Meanwhile, when idealo looked back on the 10 best-selling perfumes within the same time frame, it learnt 80% of products increased by at least 5%.

When comparing the top selling sex toy with the top selling perfume, the Romp Shine vibrator (£25) is around 40% cheaper than a bottle of Dior J’adore Eau de Parfum (£41), and will be sure to provide a partner with pleasure for a lot longer.

Katy Phillips, brand and communications manager at idealo, said: “It’s interesting to see how rising costs continue to influence the shopping behaviour across the UK.

“t’s clear to see that this Valentine’s Day, Brits are looking to find the gift that keeps on giving to make sure they get more bang for their buck.

“I’d always remind people to do their research before buying gifts for big events like Valentine’s Day as brands are likely to provide discounts or special offers to mark the occasion.

“Spend some time shopping around and comparing prices to make sure secure the best deal.”
