’30 kids’ terrorise UK estate where ‘heads peed on’ and sausage rolls used as weapons

A troubled Teeside estate is again in the headlines after a rabble of 30 kids terrorised a shop and vandalised a police car yesterday (Saturday 11).

The town of Berwick Hills has become infamous after a spate of incidents involving kids reaking havoc late at night.

In January it was reported that the town was becoming notorious for yob anti social behaviour which included kids “urinating on people’s heads” and even throwing sausage rolls at passers-by.

One Dominos fast food restaurant revealed how pastry projectiles were being lobbed by kids at the window of the takeaway chain before sprinting off.

A woman meanwhile claimed that kids “urinated over the side on top of people as they walked below” and that the behaviour was getting “worse and worse”.

Locals of the Middleborough town have pleaded with the council to try and stamp out the problem with some saying their lives were being made a “misery”.

Now, Middleborough mayor Andy Preston has called for tough measures including youth curfews and tagging.

The mayor made a statement on social media in which he asked all Teesside MPs to push for new laws to protect the public.

“After arrests and a dispersal order just a few days ago, we hoped for some peace. But last night about 30 kids terrified shop staff and decent people around Norfolk Shops,” he said.

“Our society is stupidly soft. We need to see the worst of these kids being locked up fast. We also need to know where troublemakers are – so I think that we would all want to see kids who contribute to trouble being tagged for a period of time.

“We can’t let criminals ruin an otherwise good place to live that has decent facilities and a great community spirit.”

On Friday (February 10) Teesside Live reported that an 11-year-old had been arrested after children terrorised supermarket staff.

The incident, which reportedly took place at a Morrison’s on Wednesday evening, saw children chucking a scooter at the doors of the supermarket, smashing the glass in the process.

There were also reports of kids swearing and spitting at security staff.

The mayor seems to be pushing for a change in tack.

“I want to see all kids grow up to live positive lives. Being soft doesn’t help them – it allows too many kids to drift into petty crime and then the serious crime that ruins communities and robs them of the chance to build a good life,” he said.
