Jurgen Klopp allays Liverpool exhaustion fears as he says ‘I will not and cannot go’

Jurgen Klopp allayed any fears he could walk away from Liverpool by insisting he is not exhausted by the challenge.

The Kop boss admitted he had to leave Borussia Dortmund in 2015 because he had become drained by the job. While he departed Mainz in 2008 because he had the offer of a bigger job at Dortmund.

However, the German insists neither of those are an issue now as he battles to turn Liverpool’s torrid season around. Klopp lasted seven years in both his previous managerial job but as he endures a struggle in his seventh year at Anfield ahead of Monday’s clash with Everton.

The Reds boss said: “I’m experienced enough to know you can get through this because two things… when I left Mainz it was a career step as well, so we didn’t make it, I knew a lot of interested.

“When I left Dortmund, I was really exhausted in that moment. I thought we had to change something blab blah blah it was time to do something else.

“I am neither nor in this moment, I am completely here, but I understand when people say, ‘oh seven years there, seven years there, but that has nothing to do with it’. The situation is difficult for other reasons but this is not one of them.”

Klopp has no plans to quit any time soon. He said: “I would say I have had difficult spells but always at the end of my time [laughs].

“At Mainz we had difficult times during the whole time and Dortmund was probably at the beginning and the end. So I understand that people would think that way… but I will not go and I cannot go.

I have too much responsibility and I want it and I want to sort it again. It is a difficult time, I don’t enjoy it but if we could show in this difficult time that this club is so special because we believe in everything – of people believe in me – then have to go through this together because then when we come out we will have great times again.”
