CCTV catches cyclist dramatically crashing head-first into the back of a bin lorry

A blundering cyclist was caught crashing into the back of a bin lorry and landed head-first inside.

The dramatic moment happened on a narrow road in Newlyn, Cornwall on Tuesday, February 7 as the recycling truck’s CCTV captured the mishap on camera.

In the video posted on Twitter, the rider, who is carrying a red bag around his waist and back, loses control of his bike as he goes down a hill.

While following a slow-moving bin lorry, he careers down the slope and flies head first into the hold of the vehicle – taking the bike with him.

The onboard camera sees the dazed cyclist sitting in the middle of a pile of rubbish with his upended legs trapped between the bike wheels.

Luckily the lorry driver stops as a local fisherman and a woman run to the cyclist’s rescue.

They talk to the man, who appears to have lost his helmet due to the strong impact after tumbling his way into the bin, and get him out to safety.

“Newlyn has it all,” the Twitter user wrote in caption.

He can be heard giggling: “He went straight into it.”

Viewers were left in stitches as they poked fun on social media.

One said: “He needs to go to Specsavers if he can’t see a big dust cart. He’s lucky the machine wasn’t turning and crushing up the rubbish.”

Another noted: “Nearly did the same thing at that same section years ago.”

“Bin good seeing you!” a third joked.

But others warned of the dangerous act and said the cyclist was lucky that the lorry wasn’t operating at that moment.

“This is not something to make fun and laugh about. It’s very dangerous and he could have been killed,” a man wrote.

A second penned: “It appears that the road was very wet and in that condition the bike brakes may not have worked with the expected efficiency.

“Not humorous and encouraging the mocking of an incident that could have killed them in contemptible.”
