Man City flop scores outrageous goal in training as fans joke he’s ‘better than Ronaldo’

A cheeky fan has asked if Nicolas Otamendi is now better than Cristiano Ronaldo after his stunning volley found the top corner during Benfica training.

The veteran 35-year-old defender, who helped Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar, didn’t show his full ability for much of his Manchester City spell despite winning two Premier League titles.

However, his career is still going strong in Portugal having also recently won his 100th Argentina cap – with a backheel goal in training the icing on the cake.

With a corner being swung in from the left, Otamendi adjusts his body and appears to catch the ball flush on the bottom of his right boot to send it into the top corner.

One cheeky fan wrote after the clip was posted on Twitter: “An outstanding goal in a training session…better than Ronaldo?”

Another comment read: “He’s winning the Ballon d’Or.”

With a City fan laughing: “Bloke would do this into his own net when he was with us.”

Despite fouling Randal Kolo Muani to give away a penalty in the World Cup final against France, Otamendi and his team-mates lifted the trophy after winning 4-2 in a shoot out.

He later wrote on Instagram: “After this there’s nothing else. CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD.”

With his post bringing in 1.8 million likes, player of the tournament Lionel Messi wasn’t to be outdone with 75 million likes – the most of any Instagram post ever.
