Floyd Mayweather lost £8,500 bet on the Super Bowl – but he’s still worth £375million

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has revealed he lost a whopping $10,000 (£8,500) bet by backing the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 57.

The NFL season finale played out in Arizona last weekend with the Chiefs overcoming a 10-point half-time deficit to claim their second Vince Lombardi trophy in four years – beating the Eagles 38-35.

However, heading into the game, bookmakers made the Eagles slight favourites for the game, giving them a slight edge of 1.5 points over the Chiefs.

Of course, Mayweather felt the same way as the bookies, lumping a gigantic $10,000 bet on Nick Sirianni’s Eagles to claim the Super Bowl.

And at half-time, it looked as though Mayweather would be set to make even more money with the Eagles leading 24-14.

Unfortunately though for the 45-year-old, the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes roared back in the second half to win the game, meaning Mayweather lost heavily on his bet.

However, despite the huge $10,000 bet loss, it actually emerged Mayweather came away from the Super Bowl in the green, after revealing he made another bet on Philadelphia that came through.

Like his losing bet, Mayweather lumped on $10,000 on the Eagles, this time betting that they would be leading at half-time.

When factoring in how much he wagered on the two bets, and how much he earned from the second, it turned out that the boxer was actually up $500.

And of course, it doesn’t hurt that Mayweather has a net worth that is roughly around $450m [£375m] too.
