Nicola Bulley locals ‘terrified’ after people ‘trying doors’ and ‘peering in homes’

Locals in the town Nicola Bulley went missing in are reportedly “terrified” after people have continually peered into their homes.

Nicola, 45, has been missing since Friday, January 27 after she was last seen walking her dog Willow along the River Wyre in St Michael’s on Wyre, Lancashire.

But those living in the area have noted that some are “extremely scared” after constant door-knockers and self-made sleuths pushed residents into hiring a private security firm.

Their fear that the unacceptable behaviour may continue has since prompted Wyre Council leader Michael Vincent to splash out on some extra security detail for locals.

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Vincent said: “People have reported being sat in their living rooms in an afternoon watching television and people coming up to the windows, peering in, trying the doors, it’s been terrifying for them.

“These are typically older people extremely scared in their own homes. The residents have had to employ an external security company, that’s just not acceptable.”

It comes as pressure grows on Lancashire Police after a former murder investigator stepped in to praise their efforts so far over their search for the missing mum-of-two.

Ex-copper Peter Kirkham claimed the force had so far followed guidelines to the letter when searching for a “high risk” missing person.

Nicola was listed as “high risk” after police revealed she had “significant issues with alcohol which were brought on by her ongoing struggles with menopause”.

Because she was listed as a “high risk” missing person, copper Kirkham said that officers investigating the disappearance were expected to “comply with this guidance”.

He added: “It has been clear from the start of the Nicola Bulley investigation that this criticism cannot be levelled at Lancashire Police. In high risk cases proactive enquiries start immediately.

“Lancashire Police have now explained the basis for her being considered ‘vulnerable’.”
