A prison officer has appeared in court after she ‘smuggled cannabis and a mobile phone into prison’ for an inmate she was having an inappropriate relationship with.
Joanne Hunter, 27, has been charged with conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office after allegedly conducting the relationship while working at HMP Forest Bank in Salford.
She has also been charged with bringing or conveying an unauthorised mobile phone and cannabis into the prison in December 2020.
Hunter, who wore a black top and skirt, appeared at Manchester & Salford Magistrates’ Court where details of the charges were read to her.
She spoke only to confirm her name, address and date of birth, and no pleas were entered.

She has also been charged with bringing or conveying an unauthorised mobile phone and cannabis into the prison in December 2020
Her parents watched on from the public gallery as her charges were listed.
Hunter, from Bury, Greater Manchester, is next due to appear for a pre-trial hearing at Manchester Crown Court on March 23.
Her LinkedIn page says she worked as a prison officer between December 2018 and December 2020.
It also states she graduated in applied social and studies and gained a master’s degree in childhood and youth studies at the University of Bedfordshire.
