Gary Neville hijacks ex-team-mate’s TV interview and says ‘you’re not the manager’

Gary Neville had fans in stitches with his brilliant cameo on MUTV ahead of Manchester United’s thrashing of Leicester City on Sunday.

The former Red Devils player hijacked United-owned channel MUTV as Ben Thornley gave his thoughts. Thornley was part of the Class of ’92 that won the FA Youth Cup, playing alongside Neville and the likes of Ryan Giggs and David Beckham.

The former winger was playing a part in the in-house coverage of the early kick-off on Sunday as United closed the gap on second-place City. Erik ten Hag opted to drop Raphael Varane to the bench in a suggestion that the Dutch boss had one eye on Thursday’s Europa League clash against Barcelona, the MEN reports.

Thornley was then asked on MUTV whether he thought it was the right thing to do. “Forget the Barcelona game,” he said. “Forget Sunday, this is equally as important because of the way that teams around us.”

It was at this point that Neville, working for Sky Sports, shouted from behind the camera: “You’re not the manager, you don’t have to give a standard answer!”

Thornley and host Stewart Gardner paused in shock at being heckled by the former Red Devils captain before breaking into laughter.

“Sorry about that,” Neville then said while popping his head into the camera shot before mocking Thornley by imitating him. “The next game is the most important one. We’ve got to concentrate on the next one, forget about Barcelona.”

His former team-mate Thornley seemed to take the joke well, laughing as he said: “I can’t wait to get my own back.”
