Rare Kew Gardens 50p coin racks up over 26 bids and sells for fortune on eBay

A rare coin sold for more than 420 times its face value on eBay.

The Kew Gardens 50p is one of the most sought-after coins out there.

Since its release date back in 2009, only 210,000 of the coins entered circulation.

It features the iconic Chinese Pagoda at the famous London landmark.

Often coin collectors race to get their hands on the coin as it’s so rare.

Now a seller in Dundee, Scotland, managed to pocket £211 after the coin racked up 27 bids in a week.

In the description, it read: “Kew Gardens 50p genuine 2009. This is a circulated coin.”

“Only for sale as I’m selling up my collection. Special delivery only. Any questions please just ask,” the seller added.

The coin sold for £211 but it had a £7.65 postage fee with express delivery.

After a few days of bidding, the auction finally ended on February 24 at 10:20pm.

The coin’s starting price started at 50p before shooting to £15 in a matter of a few bids.

It didn’t take long for it to reach the hundreds before ending at £211 following a four-day auction.

The Kew Gardens coin was designed to mark the 250th anniversary of the landmark in 2009.
