Todd Boehly spotted on brink of tears as Chelsea fans believe ‘Potter’s gone’

A disconsolate Todd Boehly looked on the verge of bursting into tears after watching Chelsea crumble to Tottenham as more pressure was heaped on manager Graham Potter.

The American billionaire was in the stands at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday as goals from Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane earned Spurs a crucial three points in their pursuit of the top four, while Chelsea suffered a third straight defeat.

The Blues have not won any of their last six matches now, as well as having won just twice in the Premier League since mid-October. Boehly is now facing growing calls to sack Potter, who was only appointed less than six months ago.

Since then, the club’s owners have put their hands deep in their pockets, forking out more than £300million in the January transfer window after an extortionate spending spree in the summer. Only two of Chelsea’s latest arrivals started in the clash between the London rivals – British record signing Enzo Fernandez and loanee Joao Felix, while Mykhaylo Mudryk was introduced from the subs’ bench.

But Skipp’s long-range strike straight after half-time gave Spurs the advantage before Kane turned the ball home from close range following a corner late on to seal the points for the hosts.

Fans believe the result could be the final straw for under-fire Potter. One posted an image of Chelsea’s owner on Twitter and wrote: “Tears Todd Boehly is actually feeling it. He’s goneeeee.”

Another added: “The look of a man who has a big decision to make. Sack him @todd_boehly,” while one fan commented: “Potter would be gone before the final whistle if [Roman] Abramovic was in charge.”

Others felt it was unlikely Potter would be axed, with one fan writing: “Man, he won’t sack him. Hmm it’s very annoying he sees this and didn’t sack him.”

Chelsea’s owners are adamant the former Brighton boss is their man for the long-term, but Potter admitted he cannot expect their continued backing if results do not improve soon.

Asked after the game if Chelsea’s current form was testing the owners’ faith, he replied: “Of course. It’s the same in any job anywhere. If results aren’t good enough, which they aren’t, you can’t rely on support forever. My job is to keep going.”

Pressed on whether he thought he could turn things round, he said: “Yeah because I know the personality and quality in the team. It’s a tough period of time. Confidence isn’t massively high. I know the personality, the response has been fantastic in training but we can’t transfer that to results on the pitch.”
