Truth bomb dropped on Drive to Survive proves Charles Leclerc rumour to be correct

Ferrari had a season to forget last year as their campaign quickly collapsed.

As Red Bull went on to dominate the Formula One season, Charles Leclerc was quickly embroiled in Ferrari drama as the season went on. Following the release of the most recent Drive to Survive series on Netflix, the Monégasque driver dropped a truth bomb in one interview.

The historic team looked like they were set to go toe-to-toe with Red Bull but after continually shooting themselves in the foot, their campaign quickly fell apart, and as a result, Leclerc became collateral damage.

During the Monaco Grand Prix, Leclerc was told to pit only to then be told he should stay out on the track which meant Ferrari went from a 1-2 finish to not even reaching the podium.

Then, during the British Grand Prix, Leclerc was “hung out to dry”, as said by Martin Brundle, when he was told to stay out on the track while his team-mate Carlos Sainz and his rivals all pitted for fresh tyres. As the race restarted Leclerc was overtaken by his teammate and again missed out on a podium place.

Question marks lingered over the stability of Leclerc’s relationship with then Ferrari principal Mattia Binotto, with the truth now being revealed, with Leclerc pulling no punches.

“Mattia is the boss, he’s the one thinking about the team orders, he’s the one choosing what’s right for the team and we just have to deal with it,” Leclerc says. One of the producers then delves a bit deeper as he asks: “so there’s no exceptions where you could ignore it?”

Leclerc replies: “There’s no exceptions to avoid it, no.”

After the British Grand Prix, Binotto and Leclerc were spotted exchanging their fair share of heated words, with the driver later revealing that the team principal was “p****d off” with him being upset.

“They f***ed up Leclerc’s strategy, really. They should have boxed both of them,” Red Bull boss Christian Horner is heard saying during episode four. “Even if Hamilton stayed out, he’s on old scrub tyres.”
