Along with the picture, Razor’s tweet highlighted the stark differences in his lifestyle before and after the operation

The ex-Liverpool and Spurs defender told MailOnline the op ‘saved my life’ after admitting his eating and drinking had gotten out of control (pictured after the surgery)

The Premier League legend, previously voted the 17th ‘hardest footballer of all time’, looked fighting fit as he adopted an action-man pose to show off his newly-trim physique.

Razor exclusively told MailOnline that he was inspired to undergo the procedure by former TOWIE star James ‘Arg’ Argent, who has lost 13 stone since having the same operation, after meeting Argent at a charity football match.

Razor claimed his weight ‘ballooned’ during lockdown, with the former footballing hardman growing to 27 stone after discovering food delivery service Uber Eats.

He said: ‘I struggled during Covid, that was a big factor, just sitting on my backside at home getting bigger and bigger. I got lazier.

‘I was eating loads and loads of takeaways, making bacon sandwiches just for something to do.

‘It really didn’t help when they brought out Uber Deliveries, I was getting ice cream delivered from Co-op… it’s f****** madness.

‘It was just fate that I met Arg when I did at a charity football match. I knew I had to have it done after seeing how great he looked.’

Razor also shared that he ‘feared for [his] life’ and he believes that he has ‘cheated death’ by undergoing the operation, which removed two-thirds of his stomach.

Razor previously appeared on Harry’s Heroes, Harry Redknapp’s ITV programme centred around getting former England internationals fit and firing ahead of a legacy grudge match against a team of German legends, and was diagnosed with a heart problem during filming.

He was subsequently fitted with a pacemaker.  He also suffered considerable pain in his knees due to his weight, which has improved since the surgery.

Razor was voted 17th ‘hardest footballer of all time’ for his exploits during his storied career

Since winding up his playing career, Razor has become a successful television personality

Razor enjoyed a near 20-year career in English football, with high points including an England senior cap and playing a key role in the 1998-99 season that saw West Ham qualify for the UEFA Cup after 19 years adrift from European competition.

He picked up his hardman reputation as a result of numerous on-field scuffles, such as fracturing Peter Beardsley’s jaw, leaving Andrew Cole with two broken legs after a heavy challenge during his time at Liverpool and headbutting Notts County’s Craig Short when he was at Southampton.

Following his footballing career, Razor has carved out a niche in television, first appearing on the third series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

Razor has gone on to appear in shows such as Celebrity Wife Swap UK, James May’s Man Lab, Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It Away, Celebrity Masterchef, and A League of Their Own.
