Harry Redknapp is up for returning to Tottenham with Antonio Conte on the brink

Harry Redknapp has expressed his interest in making a stunning return to Tottenham as manager.

Current Spurs head coach Antonio Conte is expected to face the axe this week. The Italian launched a heated tirade against his players and the club following the collapse against Southampton on the weekend, which didn’t do his already precarious position any favours.

Several names have already been thrown into the hat as potential replacements. And veteran former Spurs boss Redknapp, who is currently retired from management, has revealed he would have a difficult time turning down the opportunity to help out if he receives the call.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday, Redknapp said: “If someone asks you, I think it would be hard to say no, I’ll be truthful. When you love it, you do find it hard to say no, as Roy and Neil would agree.”

Redknapp, 76, was referring to 75-year-old Roy Hodgson being confirmed as the Crystal Palace manager again, while 74-year-old Neil Warnock came out of retirement earlier this season to take over at Huddersfield.

When asked if Daniel Levy had called him, Redknapp laughed: “No definitely not, that has not happened.

“But you look at what you’re doing now, sitting around, having a game of golf, and it’s not the money, it’s the challenge, you love it, the buzz of it, winning a game is a fantastic feeling. It’s hard to say no.”

Redknapp spent four seasons in charge of the north London side, taking the club from mid-table obscurity to two top-four finishes. He also famously took Spurs to the Champions League quarter-finals with a monumental win against Inter Milan.

The former West Ham manager also suggested he would be happy to be called in to aid Ryan Mason if the former midfielder is reappointed as interim coach. Redknapp, who managed Mason between 2008 and 2012, suggested a part-time role where Mason could ‘bounce ideas’ off him would also appeal.
