Paul Scholes slams Antonio Conte for ‘same old b******s’ in unexpected outburst

Paul Scholes lashed out at Antonio Conte in a now deleted Instagram post following his Tottenham exit – having told Manchester United to appoint him last year.

The former England midfielder, who won 11 Premier League titles during his two spells at Old Trafford, reacted to Conte’s exit on social media.

The 48-year-old, who now works as a pundit, took aim at managers in general when they are heading for the sack – asking why they don’t call out players.

In a now-deleted post on his Instagram story, Scholes said: “Here we go talkSPORT. A manager gets sacked so everyone blames recruitment, and a top class manager blames lack of ambition.

“Why don’t any managers say when they’re smiling and shaking hands with a player at their press conference: ‘I don’t like this player, I think [he] will eventually get me the sack’.

“Saves the same old b******s once they are sacked or leave.”

As recently as last year, Scholes branded his former club United a ‘mess’ while bemoaning their failure to appoint Conte as their new manager.

He said on BT Sport: “It should be one of the top five managers in the world. (Thomas) Tuchel, (Jurgen) Klopp, (Pep) Guardiola, no chance you can get them. But Antonio Conte? The timing looked ideal.

“You’ve seen what he’s done at Tottenham with a squad that is nowhere near as good as United’s. I think United missed a trick with him. I think they could probably still get him from Tottenham. I think he could do something special here.”

Tottenham announced on Sunday that Cristian Stellini will take the team as acting head coach for the rest of the season, with Ryan Mason stepping up as assistant head coach.

Daniel Levy’s statement reads: “We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together.

“Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our club and amazing, loyal supporters.”
