Crying Wojciech Szczesny clutches chest and exits pitch in Juventus health scare

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was in tears as he was forced to be substituted against Sporting Lisbon.

Szczesny complained of chest pain in the first half of the Europa League quarter-final clash in Turin. The Juve medical team rushed onto the pitch and the decision was made that he should come off.

As he made his way to the tunnel, Szczesny received a standing ovation and began tearing up. He was consoled by club captain Leonardo Bonucci while back-up Mattia Perrin was introduced in his place for the remainder of the first leg.

Taking no chances, he was taken to the medical centre inside the Allianz Stadium for checks. Goal Italia report Szczesny suffered palpitations, an increased heart rate and shortness of breath.

But thankfully, the electrocardiogram result is said to have come back negative. Further tests are set to be carried out tomorrow (April 14).

Juventus posted an updating on social media, tweeting: “After an initial check, Tek is doing well.”
