Rio Ferdinand’s comments on AC Milan atmosphere have fans completely perplexed

Rio Ferdinand earned considerable stick after he claimed AC Milan were struggling with the San Siro atmosphere – in their home match.

Milan were comfortably beat 2-0 by arch rivals Inter in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final. It was a very disappointing result for Stefano Pioli’s side in front of their own fans, who filled the majority of the iconic stadium.

Inter will have the supporters advantage for the second leg next Tuesday (May 16) as they’ll be the designated home side. But it appeared Ferdinand was not aware of his surroundings from the commentary booth.

One BT Sport viewer tweeted: “AC Milan struggling to adapt to the San Siro according to Rio Ferdinand? Do I have that right?”

A second wrote: “Rio Ferdinand saying AC Milan haven’t coped with the hostile atmosphere, they’re at home.” A third echoed: “Rio Ferdinand saying the Milan players haven’t adapted to the San Siro atmosphere, and they’re the home team!”

“Rio Ferdinand talks utter [poo emoji] saying AC Milan haven’t acclimatised to the atmosphere – in their home stadium,” slammed a fourth, while a fifth said: “Rio Ferdinand talking about Milan being impacted by the crowd just tells you everything.”

And a sixth added: “Rio Ferdinand claiming AC Milan are intimidated by the ‘hostile home crowd’. This is ACM’s home game. They share the same stadium, but Milan fans have been allocated the majority of seats for tonight’s tie (obviously). Tells you everything about Rio’s total lack of awareness.”

Goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan put Inter in control of the tie at the halfway stage. Milan will feel fortunate to not be further behind, with Hakan Calhanoglu hitting the post and a penalty against Simon Kjaer being overturned.
