Arne Slot emerges as a strong candidate to become Tottenham’s new boss

Arne Slot emerges as a strong candidate to become Tottenham’s new boss as Feyenoord battle to keep hold of their title-winning coach – who would cost Spurs £6m in compensation

  • Tottenham are continuing their search for Antonio Conte’s replacement as boss
  • Early favourite Julian Nagelsmann has been ruled out of the running for the role
  • Feyenoord boss Arne Slot – who has just won the league – is a strong contender

Tottenham are exploring their interest in Feyenoord boss Arne Slot.

Spurs are on the look for their next head coach and Mail Sport understands Slot is emerging as a strong candidate after it transpired last week that Julian Naglesmann would not become the club’s next boss.

Tottenham are adamant there is not a top target, but Slot is high in the thoughts of the Spurs hierarchy.

Mail Sport revealed yesterday that Feyenoord want to offer Slot a new contract worth in the region of £2.5million a year to tie their highly rated coach down.

Slot, who would cost £6m in compensation, knows he can earn much more than that at Spurs.

Spurs chief Daniel Levy has plenty of work to do as he also looks for a new sporting director

Earlier on Wednesday, Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso – who had been linked with the Spurs role – ruled himself out of the running.

‘I’m happy here with the team and the club,’ the former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder told BILD.

‘I’m not worried about my future,’ before he confirmed he would still be with the German side next season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are interested in former Bayer Leverkusen administrator Tim Steidten as chairman Daniel Levy looks to for the club’s next sporting director.

As we revealed last week, Roma’s Tiago Pinto is a contender for the role, while Eintracht Frankfurt’s Markus Krosche has also been discussed but is viewed as an outsider, as is Johannes Spors.

Brentford’s Lee Dykes is understood to be out of the running for the role.
