NFL team is worth almost double Pep Guardiola’s treble chasing Manchester City

While they might soon be the champions of Europe, Manchester City have some way to go to becoming as big as the Dallas Cowboys.

Pep Guardiola’s side breezed into the Champions League final this week by dispatching Real Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad in what was possibly their most complete performance under the Spaniard.

The 2022/23 season could see Man City claim a famous treble, becoming the first English team to do so since their arch rivals Manchester United achieved the feat back in 1999.

However, with a net worth of $4.25 billion (£3.4bn), according to Forbes, the value of City pales in comparison to that of the most valuable sports team on earth – the Dallas Cowboys.

Having purchased the NFL franchise for $150million (£120m) back in 1989, Jerry Jones’ Cowboys are now worth a whopping $8bn (£6.4bn) making them by far and away the most valuable sports team on the planet.

In the immediate years after purchasing the team, Jones and the Cowboys went on to win multiple Super Bowl titles, winning the Vince Lombardi trophy in 1992, 1993 and 1995.

However, since those three titles, which saw the Cowboys defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Buffalo Bills twice, Jones and co have not been back to Super Bowl.

The next closest team to Cowboys per Forbes’ ’50 Most Valuable Sports Teams’ are the New England Patriots, another NFL franchise.

Owned by life-long fan Robert Kraft, who purchased the franchise in 1994, the Patriots are valued at $6.4bn (£5.1bn) and have won the joint most Super Bowl titles alongside the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Comparatively, Man City rank as the 24th most valuable team in the world.

In the world of football, they sit behind Bayern Munich (23rd), Liverpool (22nd), Man United (19th), Barcelona (15th) and Real Madrid (13th).

However, that could all change should Man City go on to win multiple Champions League titles in the coming seasons, something which is entirely possible.
