Alex Jones has to awkwardly interview her ex-boyfriend Steve Jones

Alex Jones and her ex-boyfriend Steve Jones suffered an awkward reunion on Tuesday evening as she interviewed him about his new book on The One Show.

The excruciating exchange came just months after Alex, 46, revealed the shocking reason behind their 2002 split, after the former couple dated for three years.

The TV presenter told how Steve lied that Alex was unwell so he was able to steal an exclusive interview with Angelina Jolie for their Channel 4 show, Rise.

Steve, 46, appeared on the show to discuss his debut novel, Call Time, which follows the story of a man who finds an old mobile phone and speaks to his 12-year-old self.

Alex, who was co-hosting with Jermaine Jenas, said she had ‘read all about’ Steve’s book, before the presenter awkwardly quizzed her on how much of it she has read.

Addressing Steve, she said: ‘As a prolific reader, you’re definitely good at writing! I’ve read a bit of the book and it’s got me hooked.

He quipped: ‘How much is a bit? What page are you on Jones?’

Alex replied: ‘Maybe a quarter of the way through.’

The interview came just a few months after Alex claimed Steve pretended she was ill to steal a gig with Hollywood heavyweight Angelina.

Alex discussed what happened with Dish podcast hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, as she detailed stories from her personal life and celebrity encounters.

Alex said she worked as an entertainment correspondent on Channel 4 show Rise when the opportunity to interview Angelina Jolie rose, until Steve stole the show.

‘Normally they would call in the morning and ask to come and do an interview or a junket’, Alex shared.

‘I was staying in his flat at the time when I was working in London and he picked up the landline and said “Al’s not here. She’s not feeling well, she’s had to go back to Cardiff”, I was in Topshop.’

‘So he did the interview’, she claimed.

The Welsh beauty is now mum to three children and married to Insurance broker, Charlie Thomson, after tying the knot in 2015.

TV presenters, Alex and Steve, dated from 1999-2002, and later reunited to present Let’s Dance For Comic Relief, remaining close friends for the show.

In 2003, Steve landed a presenting job on weekend show T4 after he interviewed Angelina on the red carpet, and revealed at the time he had split from Alex. 

Alex has previously told the story, admitting she broke up with her partner over the betrayal, but has never before named Steve as the culprit. 

Speaking on the podcast Thanks A Million with Angela Scanlon, Alex previously said: ‘And so I got back to the flat and was like, where is he? Hours went past, nobody answering their phones and in the end thought, right I’m going to drive back to Cardiff, because I don’t know where you are, you’ve probably gone to the pub.

‘And then the production company called, and they were like, we’ve got bit of a situation. Tomorrow morning your boyfriend is going to the premiere with Angelina Jolie and it it would be really funny if you came on the line, live on the show and surprise him and said that you know exactly what he’s been up to.

‘So again, I said “ye”s, so on live telly I’m like,” you lied to me, where have you been? So yeah, not surprisingly, we split up live on telly!”‘

Steve recently shared he’s finally put his womanising’s ways in the past after marrying Phylicia Jackson-Jones, with the star describing their union as his ‘greatest achievement’.

The couple met 11 years ago while Steve was working in America on The X Factor USA and Phylicia was a photographer.

Nick asked Alex about her story with Lionel Riche after she passed norovirus onto him during his tour.

She said: ‘On the way back from the show I felt a bit dodgy but being the warrior I am, I went to work the day after cause I felt better…

‘At the end of the interview with Lionel Riche, I went to kiss him on the cheek, and he turned his head and went full lips.

‘We ended up in a full-on lip situation and then he got the norovirus and had to cancel the rest of his tour.’
