‘Good Samaritan’ Sheffield homicide sufferer named after automobile ploughed into crowd

A person hit by a automobile yesterday (December 27) in Sheffield has been named as Christian Marriot.

Mr Marriot, 46, was hit in Burngreave and has since been described by South Yorkshire Police as a “Good Samaritan, who had stepped in to help a stranger in their time of need”. Others have been injured within the incident following a “violent outbreak.”

Officers from South Yorkshire Police have been known as to College Close to “reports of violence and disorder” at about 2pm at the moment (Wednesday, December 27). Police have since confirmed {that a} homicide investigation is underway.

A spokesperson for the power mentioned: “As the call was underway, a car collided with a group of people”. A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of homicide and a 55-year-old man was detained on suspicion of tried homicide.

Both suspects are being held in custody. The household of Mr Marriot have been knowledgeable and are understood to be receiving specialist help.

DCI Andrew Knowles, senior investigating officer, mentioned following the incident, “We are now dealing with a murder investigation and understand the distress this will cause to those directly affected and the wider community”. He famous that officers could be conducting CCTV and house-to-house investigations.

He added: “We have a large cordon in the area and are conducting CCTV and house-to-house enquiries. We’ll be patrolling throughout the night to offer reassurance and to speak to anyone who may hold information or feel concerned.”
