US and UK forces shot down 21 drones and missiles fired by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels towards worldwide transport lanes within the Red Sea, the US army mentioned.
“Iranian-backed Houthis launched a complex attack of Iranian designed one-way attack UAVs…, anti-ship cruise missiles, and an anti-ship ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen into the Southern Red Sea,” the US Central Command (CENTCOM) mentioned in a press release.
The pressure mentioned no accidents or injury have been reported, including that this was the twenty sixth Houthi assault on industrial transport lanes within the area since November 19.
Grant Shapps, the British Defence Secretary, mentioned it was the “largest attack from the Iranian-backed Houthis in the Red Sea to date.”
“Deploying Sea Viper missiles and guns, Diamond destroyed multiple attack drones heading for her and commercial shipping in the area, with no injuries or damage sustained to Diamond or her crew,” he wrote on X.
The incident got here forward of a scheduled vote on the United Nations Security Council on a decision that will demand a right away halt to assaults by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on service provider and industrial vessels within the Red Sea.
Last week, 12 nations led by the US warned the Houthis of penalties except they instantly halted focusing on ships within the area.
