Co-op points assertion because it axes rewards scheme – however clients are fuming

A serious grocery store has infuriated clients by revealing it is axing its rewards scheme from this week.

Co-op will not be operating its present factors scheme from at this time (January 24). And the choice has aggravated a lot of its loyal clients.

From now on, members will not be rewarded with 2p for each £1 spent on the retailer’s own-brand items.

An e-mail was despatched to clients that learn: “By making changes to our membership benefits, we’re giving you more immediate value back. From 24 January, you’ll no longer earn rewards for purchasing Co-op products and services.

“Instead, as a valued member, you may at all times save extra with unique Member Prices throughout Food, Insurance, Funeralcare and Legal Services, providing you with financial savings on the belongings you want.”

The excellent news is that those that have already got cash within the scheme may have till the top of 2024 to spend it.

The resolution to eliminate the scheme has upset the grocery store’s members and lots of have taken to social media to share their annoyance. One exclaimed: “A bad move when you’re the most expensive supermarket you at least need to make the loyalty scheme worth having.”

Another added: “Just more money grabbing. Think I will definitely look at going elsewhere.” While a 3rd chimed in: “I think I will be driving further afield from now on. This was one of the only good things they offered.”

Co-op membership prices £1 and clients get used to get personalised presents each week, relying on what they purchase. Before the scheme modified, a member who spent £20 on Co-op personal model merchandise would get 40p on their card.

Co-op mentioned in an announcement: “We know times are tough for our member-owners and communities right now, which is why we’ve listened and are making some changes to give more value back to them whilst still supporting local communities.

“From January 24, as an alternative of incomes rewards on the acquisition of Co-op branded meals purchases, members will now profit from.”

The retailer said its research showed that member prices were 90% better value than its previous rewards system.

The news comes after one Tesco has shared her hacks to save money after claiming she’s ‘never paid full price’ in the shop.
