Athletics magnificence Alica Schmidt claims to have turned down a six-figure sponsorship – regardless of incomes barely £600-a-month.
The German runner, who represented her nation on the World Athletics Championships in Budapest final 12 months, is likely one of the most recognisable faces in her sport. Away from the monitor, the 25-year-old has a profitable sideline in modelling.
Her beautiful shoots and large social media following have seen her dubbed the ‘world’s sexiest athlete’. Schmidt has virtually 5million followers on Instagram and 2million on TikTok.

However, she earns simply £611 from her single sponsorship deal German sports activities basis Sporthilfe. But because of her mega social media earnings, she was capable of rebuff a bumper contract from a “well-known brand”.
“Two months ago I received an offer from a well-known brand. But I wasn’t 100% behind it,” she informed Bild. “I didn’t really feel snug with that. That would have been within the mid-to-high six figures for a marketing campaign.

“In principle, I have to say that it is not easy for most German track and field athletes to make a living from sport. Of course there is money to be made from competitions. In most competitions you don’t make any money.
“Personally, I couldn’t live on these amounts alone, because for many competitions you still have travel and hotel costs, which aren’t always covered. Most of us study part-time in order to build up a second source of income, or even have mini jobs that we do on the side.”
Schmidt was named on Forbes’ coveted 30 beneath 30 listing in 2022. She was beforehand branded the ‘world’s sexiest athlete’ by Australian journal Busted Coverage.
However, it’s not a label she is fully snug with, beforehand admitting: “This title doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s based on a subjective opinion of someone else judging the appearance of a person. I like to think that beauty comes from the inside.”
