Michael Smith couldn’t resist a light-hearted dig at Gerwyn Price’s withdrawal from a darts match as a result of the venue was too chilly.
The Iceman pulled out midway via his third spherical match at Players Championship 1 in Wigan on Monday after what he claimed have been “absolutely pathetic conditions”. Price was trailing 4-2 in opposition to Brendan Dolan in a best-of-11 encounter when he forfeited the match at Robin Park Tennis Centre.
The Welshman later wrote on Instagram: “Absolutely pathetic situations, journey all the way in which to Wigan to play in an expert recreation and we have now to play in lower than novice situations.

In response, a fan jokingly enquired: “Gezzy turned the heating on?” Another quipped: “You battled through and completed a best of 11 legs dispute the conditions! True warrior!”

A 3rd added: “You’re the hot man instead of the Ice man lol.” A fourth waded in: “Mrs went gym this morning in the same building. Was there just after 9 and she said it was boiling then.”
It gained’t be getting hotter any time quickly for Price, who faces a visit to Glasgow for evening three of the Premier League on Thursday. And to make issues worse, teenage sensation Luke Littler is his quarter-final opponent.
