A spokesperson instructed the Daily Star that they’re unmoved of their place and even expressed doubt that the piece of tech is even at their website.
“Newport City Council has been contacted multiple times since 2013 about the possibility of retrieving a piece of IT hardware said to contain Bitcoins, which may or may not be in our landfill site.”
And, expressing frustration at Mr Howell’s repeated requests, the council added: “The council has told Mr. Howells multiple times that excavation is not possible under our environmental permit, and that work of that nature would have a huge negative environmental impact on the surrounding area.

“The council is the only body authorised to carry out operations on the site. We have been very clear and consistent in our responses that we cannot assist Mr. Howells in this matter.
“Our place has not modified. We will likely be providing no additional feedback on this problem because it takes up invaluable officer time which might be spent on delivering providers for the residents of Newport.”
It comes as the 38-year-old said his team has sent legal correspondence, a letter before claim, notifying the council that “we’re prepared to go to the High Court to hunt a Judicial Review”.
