Mike Dean’s quip to Gary Neville on commentary branded ‘second of the ultimate’

Mike Dean had followers in stitches together with his feedback to Gary Neville about being from Liverpool through the Carabao Cup closing.

Former Premier League referee Dean was a part of Sky Sports’ commentary staff for the Carabao Cup closing between Liverpool and Chelsea on Sunday.

And it was removed from a quiet sport for him in his new position as he tried to elucidate to Reds legend Jamie Carragher why Virgil van Dijk’s purpose halfway by way of the second half was dominated out.

Carragher was left bemused by the choice to disallow what would have been the one purpose of regulation time at Wembley by Van Dijk after Wataru Endo had obstructed Levi Colwill within the build-up from an offside place.

As Dean defined the legal guidelines to the ex-Red, Neville quipped in by simply joking ‘how good it is to hear two people from Liverpool arguing’. However, Dean got here again with the right response, saying: “I think you’ll find I’m from The Wirral, Gary”.

A fellow fan of Dean’s beloved Tranmere Rovers wrote: “Haha well in Mike Dean. Pointing out that he is from Wirral not Liverpool.” A 3rd added: “Mike Dean for player of the match for that Wirral comment alone.”

Dean’s understanding that Chris Kavanagh would rule out the purpose following a VAR examine was proved right. Though the incident wasn’t outstanding within the purpose, Colwill led his personal protests earlier than, with the assistance of VAR, Kavanagh adjudged Endo to be interfering with play from his offside place.
