RICHARD EDEN: Twiggy makes a return to pop music

How about this for a comeback? Twiggy is returning to pop music, 48 years after her self-titled debut album was launched.

I can disclose that the celebrated former mannequin, 74, who’s now Dame Lesley Lawson, has teamed up with former Rolling Stones bass guitarist Bill Wyman, 87.

Featuring piano, bass, guitar and her vocals, their album is impressed by conventional music from the Thirties to Fifties.

‘We haven’t introduced it but, however I’ve been working with Bill Wyman,’ she confirms.

‘Covid got here alongside and we needed to Skype for about two or three years. Bill stored sending me songs from that interval, and I like that.

Speaking on her podcast, Tea With Twiggy, she described her musical journey as ‘scary and thrilling,’ earlier than teasing that ‘hopefully’ the album will come out quickly

‘My first movie, The Boy Friend, was all Nineteen Twenties music. Bill narrowed it down and I stored selecting music from [American musicians] Mary Ford and Les Paul.’

Speaking on her podcast, Tea With Twiggy, she provides of her musical journey: ‘It is frightening and thrilling. Hopefully the album will come out quickly.’

Twiggy, an icon of the Swinging Sixties, appeared on the sleeve of the 1973 David Bowie album Pin Ups. ‘I simply really feel thrilled that I acquired to fulfill Bowie,’ she has mentioned.

‘That photograph was early Nineteen Seventies and he was enormous at that time. English Vogue had this concept of placing me and him on the quilt of Vogue and we thought it was a superb thought.

‘He was recording in Paris and I flew there, and we did the image. The editor of Vogue, of their nice knowledge, mentioned, ‘I am unable to put a person on the quilt.’ 

‘We mentioned, ‘Why not? You are insane.’ But they’d not budge. So David mentioned, ‘While they’re faffing about, I’ll put it on the album cowl.’ ‘
