Bratislava, March 4 – The first meeting of women leaders of “United Women” initiative took place March 1-4 in Bratislava ended today. More than 100 Ukrainian women leaders representing various public organizations in 15 countries (Europe and Ukraine included) met to create a powerful global platform influencing social and political processes.
The meeting was supported by European politicians and public figures who emphasized the initiative’s importance and significance. The purpose of “United Women” is to bring women leaders together for achieving peace, security and social justice.
According to UN statistics there are over the past two years more than 6 million people have left Ukraine, mostly women and children. It is a warning sign for “United Women” to create favorable conditions for women who have left abroad to fulfill their potential and lead an active life.
The forum participants approved the United Women Declaration declaring women leaders’ intention to unite their efforts in the struggle for peace, to ensure the protection of women’s and children’s rights and to prevent violence against them. They urge women in Ukraine and around the world to join the movement.
Alyona Nykolayenko, one of the initiators of the meeting and chairwoman of the All-Ukrainian social organization “Council of Large Families of Ukraine” says: “We sincerely invite all women to join “United Women” and support its goals. This is an important step for strengthening the position of women in society and achieving the global goals of peace, security and social justice”.
The international initiative “United Women” provides great opportunities and new direction for global women’s leadership.
In 2024 the meeting participants agreed to establish a single international platform “United Women” with headquarters in Switzerland and representatives in 14 countries.
