Woman helps catch greater than 35 serial killers by ‘pondering like a assassin’

A psychology graduate who rapidly turned South Africa’s first serial killer profiler, has shared her chilling experiences tackling a number of the nation’s most horrific crimes.

Just days after leaving college Dr Micki Pistorius was plunged into her first case, one which had perplexed detectives for eight years. What would the mother have given just to be able to touch her son’s hand again? ” says Micki, emotionally recounting the early days of her profession when speaking to The Mirror.

“The sadness of it was almost overwhelming. It was my first few days in this new career. It struck me: this is not a game, this is real. Growing up in South Africa, I grew up around crime, but this was my first real direct experience of it,”

In lower than three months, Micki’s profiling abilities led to the seize of the Station Strangler, marking the beginning of a six-year journey aiding detectives in apprehending over 35 serial killers.

Micki’s groundbreaking work as South Africa’s first serial killer profiler is now being showcased in an 11-part drama collection titled “Catch Me A Killer,” set to air on Alibi this Tuesday. Discussing the present’s title, Micki explains: “I started giving courses on criminal profiling to detectives. At the end of one course. I said, ‘what are you waiting for? Go catch me, a killer’.”

“He had numerous anger because of childhood trauma – after being deserted by his mom earlier than he turned two – after which being sexually and emotionally abused at numerous foster houses and establishments. He additionally killed his personal daughter and a neighbour’s son.”

All serial killers have one thing in common, says Micki – a deep-seated psychological motive to kill. The job did have its downfalls, and by 2000 she retired, battling PTSD. She then focused on writing several books.
