Southampton vs Preston postponed after inferno erupts hours earlier than kick-off

Southampton‘s Championship conflict in opposition to Preston has been postponed after an inferno erupted outdoors of St Mary’s Stadium hours earlier than kick-off.

A big plume of smoke was seen earlier on Wednesday (March 6) from a constructing subsequent to the stadium on Britannia Road and throughout town centre whereas pupils have been evacuated from the close by St Mary’s Primary School within the early afternoon.

With Southampton set to host Preston tonight, the disruption brought on by the fireplace has triggered the membership to postpone the league fixture which they introduced in an announcement. “Southampton Football Club regrets to announce that tonight’s Sky Bet Championship match against Preston North End has been postponed,” the assertion reads.

“The decision was made after consultation with the local authorities and emergency services after a major fire broke out in a building next to the St Mary’s Stadium site earlier today. The incident has caused significant disruption in the area with road closures around the stadium still in place as fire crews continue to deal with the situation.

“We are grateful for the cooperation of Preston and the EFL, and whereas we respect the frustration followers might really feel, we hope they may perceive the necessity to put the protection of supporters and employees of each golf equipment first.

“The game will be postponed to a new date, which will be announced in due course, and all tickets for tonight’s match will be valid for the rearranged fixture.

The fire is said to have affected a warehouse on Melbourne Street opposite the stadium’s south stand. According to South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), one person with minor smoke inhalation has been treated at the scene as paramedics remain in the area to assist colleagues from the fire service.
