Jamie Carragher ‘sick of Micah Richards’ snigger’ and fires shot at Kate Abdo

Jamie Carragher joked he was “delighted” to be shot of his CBS colleagues – but they later got their own back.

The Liverpool legend was on location at the Signal Iduna Park for the first leg of Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League semi-final against PSG on Wednesday (May 1). Replacing him in the studio was Italian football icon Alessandro Del Piero.

Carragher was asked pre-match if he was happy to have a change of scenery, jokingly responding with quips about fellow Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards’ laugh and host Kate Abdo’s abilities.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” he said. “I need a bit of fresh air. I’m sick of Micah’s laugh, I’m sick of Thierry talking about tactics, and I’m sick of Kate not reading the autocue properly so honestly, I’m delighted to be out and about, I’m having an absolute ball.”

Carragher would go onto enjoy a boozy night in Germany, mixing it with the Dortmund fans in the famous Yellow Wall as their side secured a 1-0 lead heading to the French capital next week. He confessed to drinking eight pints of lager throughout the course of the evening.

When back on air post-match, he confronted Abdo. “Kate I didn’t forget what you said when you introduced Alessandro, about his style. And did you call me Uncle Junior from the Sopranos with the cardigan on? You said something,” he recalled.

She was then quick to remind him of his own comments and threatened to replace him with Del Piero, replying: “I’ll tell you what I didn’t forget, did you guys hear what Jamie said about us, his former friends?

“‘Annoying laugh, loud, didn’t miss him. Happy to be gone, sick of Thierry’s analysis’. Apparently I’m bad at prompter. So yeah, Alessandro’s done extremely well, he’s been very kind. The new duo, Micah and Alessandro!”
