The reason why Kylian Mbappe was left behind by PSG‘s team bus after their defeat by Borussia Dortmund has been revealed.

Mbappe played the full game of his side’s first-leg Champions League semi-final tie on Wednesday as the Parisians lost 1-0 in their bid to win the title in what is expected to be their star man’s final season.

The forward was unable to have too much of an impact on the game, with his side coming on the wrong side of the result in Germany as they managed just three shots on target in the game.

They will have the chance to turn the tie around next week as they bid to finally win Europe’s elite competition, with the second leg to take place back in Paris on Tuesday.

Luis Enrique’s side may have to do so with a potentially-frustrated Mbappe, however, who was left behind at Signal Iduna Park, and the reason has now been revealed.

PSG’s team bus, which pre-match arrived accompanied by riot police, made its way to the airport without their star man

According to French outlet Le Parisien, Mbappe was held back after the game due to being selected for a random drugs test.

Players are selected at random to take part in mandatory testing after matches, and it was reportedly Mbappe’s turn on Wednesday.

The players involved have to wait for the mandatory tests to be completed before departing and continuing with their post-match rituals.

It is reported that Mbappe was left behind by the bus, which, pre-match, arrived accompanied by riot police, and later joined up with his team-mates at the airport to travel back to Paris.

He is said to have travelled by private transport following the conclusion of the testing.

It’s likely the France star has just a number of games remaining with his current team, who he joined as a teenager in 2017 from Monaco.

Mbappe is almost certainly playing his last few games for PSG before leaving in the summer

His side are still in the tie by trail as they bid to finally win their first Champions League title

His contract expires in the summer, and he has made it known that he doesn’t intend to sign a new one to stay at the club beyond the end of the season.

The 25-year-old is widely expected to join Real Madrid in the summer, linking up with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Endrick at the Bernabeu.

While the deal would be free in terms of the transfer fee, a signing on fee of up to £105million has been reported.
