Taylor Swift ‘could also be lured to Wrexham’ as Ryan Reynolds confirms ‘backdoor plan’

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have revealed their ambitious plan to entice pop sensation Taylor Swift to a Wrexham match – stepping up the celebrity game from Hugh Jackman.

The Racecourse Ground has seen its fair share of star-studded visitors since the Hollywood takeover by Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney three years ago. The likes of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Ant Man (Paul Rudd), and Elf (Will Ferrell) have all experienced the charm of the north Wales club, along with Emma Corrin, Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively, and the cast of It’s Always Sunny.

However, in today’s celebrity world, one star outshines them all – pop icon Taylor Swift. Fresh from their promotion to the third tier of English football – the club’s second consecutive promotion – the co-owners have hatched a plan to tempt her to The Racecourse Ground next season.

The owners of the soon-to-be League One club made an appearance on ESPN’s ‘The Dan Patrick Show’ where the host asked about the possibility of Taylor – who has upcoming concert tour dates in the UK – attending a match, reports the Mirror.

“That would be a coup… yeah, I would love that,” Reynolds responded. McElhenney added that the plan might involve NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce – the latter being Swift’s other half.

“I know for sure that the Kelce brothers are coming out to a game, so it’s just a matter of time,” the It’s Always Sunny actor stated. “That’s our backdoor plan,” Reynolds added. “That’s how you lure the queen bee.”

Many connections can be found among these stars. Reynolds’ wife, Blake, is a close pal of Taylor. Both women were at this year’s Las Vegas Super Bowl, cheering for Taylor’s current beau and Kansas City Chiefs player. October saw Reynolds and his wife supporting the three-time Super Bowl champ during a game against the New York Jets at Met Life Stadium.

Meanwhile, the fame of the Kelce brothers keeps growing within the sports culture, in no small part due to Taylor. Jason, Travis’ older brother, has recently retired from the Philadelphia Eagles, which just happens to be The Wrexham co-owner McElhenney’s childhood team.

Jason had quite the revelation when he recently featured on his award-winning podcast, New Heights, while discussing Welsh NFL newcomer Louis Rees-Zammit who is now a part of the international NFL player pathway. Jason painted Welsh people as “posh, rich and upper-class”.

“When I think of Welsh, I think British people call it ‘posh’. I think of these rich, upper class, just beautiful white people,” Jason shared.

“He [Rees-Zammit] is the running stereotype of what I would think of with a Welsh person. I don’t know if that’s an accurate stereotype but that’s certainly what I think of and he’s helping continue that trend in my mind.

“I’m excited to see what this guy does. I know it’s gonna be a learning curve, but I hope this guy takes the world by f****** storm.”

Following Kelce’s remarks, a dose of backlash came swiftly, forcing the ex-centre for a hasty amendment to his earlier comments. In response to criticism from a football fan on X, he confessed: “Yeah, I’ve come to understand, I was very incorrect on this. Based on further assessment since these incorrect statements, not sure why I had these preconceptions in my mind, but I have found that the Welsh seem exactly like my kind of people. Happy to be incredibly wrong.”

McElhenney then jumped into the conversation and stretched out an offer for a personal tour of Wales to better enlighten the former centre about his misconceptions. “Yes, incredibly wrong,” McElhenney retorted, adding: “I should show you around someday. I might know a few people. See for yourself.”

It appears the brothers Kelce may take up the Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia star’s offer, potentially setting up a prospect of Taylor catching a glance of League One action next season.
