EFL star shells out £2,500 to get followers 600 pints – although he received relegated

A Rotherham United player will fund 600 pints for fans ahead of the club’s last game of the season.

The Millers take on Cardiff City at home on Saturday afternoon, having already finished rock bottom of the Championship by some margin. Rotherham fans will still be keen to enjoy their last match before relegation to League One, and one player is hoping to make it a special goodbye by performing a brilliant gesture.

Goalkeeper Viktor Johannson, a fan-favourite at New York Stadium, is expected to play his final game for the club this weekend. The Swede, who has made 143 appearances for the side, will treat Rotherham fans by paying for the first 600 pints at the Cutlers Arms – a pub located near Rotherham’s ground.

“This is an unbelievable gesture and show of appreciation for the support given to Viktor from the #rufc fans. Special shout out to Brett @ BSB Printing for the cards and the team at Cutlers for helping put this on.”

Johansson made the switch to English football when he joined Aston Villa as an academy player back in 2015. Following a loan spell at Alfreton Town, he joined Leicester City before ending up at Rotherham in 2020.
