According to Birmingham Live, a Greggs spokesperson confirmed: “Our Vegan Steak Bake will be taking a break from the menu.

“It will make way for a tasty vegan favourite, which will be launching next week.” The Vegan Steak Bake was crafted to resemble its meaty cousin.

Packed with 96 layers of flaky puff pastry, the alternative has Quorn mycoprotein pieces, instead of beef, as well as onions and a rich, meat-free gravy.

In a 2020 commentary, our friends at BirminghamLive reviewed the product and admitted it was “slightly more tasteless and a little less rich than the iconic original”.

The review continued: “It’s still a hugely impressive substitute I would happily opt for again, with the the geniuses at Greggs somehow managing to change the face of vegan food for a second year in a row.

“Inside, it’s a whole different story, with the vegan version still filled to the brim with that famous gravy sauce.”
