A Brit locked in their flat on a bank holiday was stuck inside until an “absolute hero” intervened.
Coming to the rescue with some Allen keys and a toolbox, a helpful locksmith freed the Reddit poster after a “proper saga” of trying to get out of their flat.
Standing on a wheelie bin and throwing their tools up to the trapped resident saved a pub trip nearly ruined by a locked door.

Taking to forum site Reddit and explaining their trouble, user Sepalous was left with a handle refusing to turn and despite having their keys was unable to open it.
After ringing up a local locksmith to take a look at the door, the user confirmed they had been freed from their home since their lock was jammed and wouldn’t budge no matter how hard they tried.
They wrote: “The lock was jammed: after realising it wasn’t going to open no matter the amount of percussive maintenance performed and getting a neighbour to try the door with a key from the other side, I called a local locksmith.”
With a pub trip on the verge of cancellation the locksmith worked quick and “had to stand on a wheelie bin” to get their tools up to the flat.
“He was an absolute hero and later borrowed a ladder from a neighbour to climb in through the window (I live in a Victorian conversion). The bolt had to be angle ground off. The lock has now been replaced, and I’m off to the pub!”
Fellow Reddit users were less than helpful with their suggestions as the original poster figured a way out of their flat. One wrote: “If you do get trapped in your flat, try not to get trapped in your flat.”
Another suggested to “try unlocking it anyway”. A third user added: “Try hitting the case with a mallet from various angles while jigging the handle.”
