Police have swarmed the area around Manchester Crown Court following the breakout of a massive brawl.
Some 20 people are understood to have been involved in a melee of bottle-throwing, grappling and throwing punches. Men and women are understood to have been involved in the fracas in front of the steps at Crown Square, The Manchester Evening News reports.
The clash is then understood to have spilled out on Bridge Street, on Thursday afternoon (May 9) with witnesses reporting seeing large numbers of police officers arriving on the scene in a bid to quell the unrest.

One witness told the MEN: “It’s kicked off massively outside crown court. Two groups, probably 20 in total, were fighting outside the main entrance. Looks like Bridge Street is the main focus, but there’s loads of cops in Spinningfields as well.”
The same outlet reported that another witness said there were “bottles thrown” between the two groups.
Images from the scene at the time showed two large groups forming ahead of clash.
Images also showed officers leading away a number of people from the scene. Greater Manchester Police has not yet given further details about the events that took place.
The Daily Star has contacted Greater Manchester Police for further comment and information on the incident.
