Ian Wright manufacturers Roy Keane ‘facetious’ as tempers boil over about Man Utd loss

Ian Wright branded Roy Keane “facetious” as tempers boiled over about Manchester United.

United suffered a 4-0 drubbing at Crystal Palace on Monday, with Michael Olise scoring a brace either side of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell’s goals. The woeful result sparked the latest inquest over United manager Erik ten Hag’s capabilities, with the Dutchman’s future at the club beyond this summer already uncertain.

Speaking on Stick to Football via Sky Bet, Wright compared United’s ongoing struggles to Palace’s changing fortunes under new manager Oliver Glasner. But it soon descend into an fiery debate with Keane.

Wright began by saying: “I’m looking at the manager [Ten Hag] thinking what more is he going to do? Like I just mentioned with Oliver Glasner, in 13 games at Palace they’ve changed.

“Palace have just changed their manager. How can it take so long [for Ten Hag]?”

Keane interjected: “Are you comparing Crystal Palace with Man United? Where are Palace in the league? Palace are in a good little run at home.”

Wright responded: “But Palace just changed their manager 13 games ago,” to which the Irishman replied: “So Palace have got all the answers then?”

A furious Keane continued to talk over Wright, adding: “Do you know why they’re doing well Palace? They’ve got two of their best players playing again. Palace are 14th in the league so don’t be getting all excited about Crystal Palace.”

Wright, clearly exasperated, responded: “Why I’m excited about Palace is that their manager is changing things for them. We’re talking about Adam Wharton and Will Hughes playing great football. Passing it through. Joachim Andersen passing it long.

“They’ve got a structure of play, this is what I’m trying to say. You lot saying [Ten Hag] might still be there [at United] in the summer.”

Keane went for another jibe, saying: “Where are Palace now, 14th?!” with Wright lashing out: “I’m not bothered about where they are!”

The United legend yelled in reply: “You’re not bothered where they are?! It’s pretty important where they are in the league table isn’t it?!” with Wright responding: “You’re being facetious now.”

The heated argument reached its climax with former Arsenal and Palace man Wright shouting: “Palace just hammered f***ing United, I’m talking about them because they’re in the moment.”

Jill Scott sought to diffuse the row by saying: “Now now, let’s shake hands and make up,” as the calmed down ex-striker concluded: “Palace have got to get some love as well because it’s all United and I’ve heard it all.”
