Lad who travelled 7,000 miles from Argentina gutted to seek out viral chip store shut

A lad who had travelled more than 7,000 miles from Argentina rocked up at a famous chip shop only to find it closed.

Lauti Murguia, was on holiday in the UK when he decided to visit the world-renowned Mega Chippy on Binley Road. It shot to fame in May 2022 after a catchy jingle about it went viral on TikTok.

Since becoming an internet sensation, the chippy has seen an influx of visitors from as far away as Australia and the US, but this Argentinian was not so lucky.

Lauti, a Coventry City FC fan, had made the trip to the UK to watch the much-anticipated FA Cup match between the Sky Blues and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium. After their gut-wrenching defeat, the 23-year-old decided to commiserate with a good old bag of chips.

But he make a rookie error of not checking the business’ opening hours before making the trek.

On X, Lauti posted a picture of himself standing outside the closed Binley Mega Chippy with the caption: “All the way from Argentina and it is closed…”

His mate Wardy quipped that it was “the main reason he flew over” from Argentina.

Coventry Live reports Lauti said: “I saw that my friend had a Binley Mega Chippy birthday card and at first I did not know what that was, so I asked him about it! He told me that it was a super famous trend so people from all over the country used to go to Coventry just to try their food.”

Gutted, Lauti called it a “shame”.

He said: “When I posted the picture, most of the Coventry City fans who also love Binley Mega Chippy told me that it is not the best day to visit! It was a shame, I really wanted to try authentic British food.”
