‘Grieving widow’ snapped in ‘harmless’ image had darkish secret hidden underneath mattress

As Lee Ann Sabine posed at the mirror for a photograph with her grand double bed in the foreground, only she knew the dark secret that lay beneath it.

As Juliet Eden took the image of the grieving pensioner whose husband was missing, little did she know she was just inches away from his decomposing body.

The sinister photoshoot was undertaken a year before the 74-year-old was exposed as a killer. She died from cancer just weeks before her grim secret was unearthed.

The decayed and partially-preserved skeleton of John Sabine, last seen in 1997, was found wrapped in sheets of plastic in the communal garden of her flat in Beddau, near Pontypridd, South Wales, which Lee had spent hours transforming.

She had previously confessed to a friend that she hit him over the head with a stone frog ornament, which was found in her flat after her death, Wales Online reports.

His body was found dressed in pyjamas and had been wrapped with layers of shopping bags, bin bags, and bits of foil. A post-mortem examination concluded John had suffered a number of skull fractures which were consistent with an assault.

Lee was posthumously named as the prime suspect for murder by South Wales Police.

Around a year before she died in 2015, Juliet visited Lee’s flat after photographing her for a “Hollywood makeover” at her local salon.

She described her as “extremely eccentric but likeable” with Lee recounting her fame as a cabaret singer in Australia and New Zealand.

Lee even read Juliet’s tarot cards and predicted that she herself would become famous and that Juliet would write a book about her, which would be made into a movie.

After Lee’s death, Juliet’s eerie pictures went on to sell for thousands worldwide.

Recounting the meeting in her book Frog Murderer, Juliet, from Barry, South Wales said: “I went round to the flat and I got photographs inside her bedroom where you have got that raised bed. Unbeknownst to me there was a body in there. I also got photographs of the rug that the body was later wrapped up in and put in a wheelie bin.”

Around a year after their meeting Juliet received a call from her friend to say that Lee was dead and a body had been discovered at a flat. She came to the horrible realisation that Lee’s husband’s body had been hidden underneath the bed she had photographed.

Juliet said: “I am convinced Lee wanted nice photographs for when the story all came out. She couldn’t hide the murder after she was dead. I think that’s why this all came about. She controlled the whole situation all the way through. Lee had a high IQ, was engaging, and funny.”

With a new documentary being produced by Raw TV Juliet decided to write a book about her meeting with Lee, which was published earlier this year.

On her decision to write the book Juliet said: “This keeps coming back up for me and resurfacing, I keep reselling the photographs, and I always felt like I needed to write a book. I definitely had a story to tell.”
