Store boss employs ‘Robocop’ to fight shoplifters – it is already stopped 90%

A store boss cut shoplifting by 90% after recruiting a Robocop that spots thieves before they strike.

Alex Kapadia said he was forced to act when pilfering was costing his Morrisons Daily store £100 a day.

Since he installed AI cop Facewatch – which uses mug-spotting tech to alert retailers every time a known shoplifter comes in.

Alex, of Northampton, said: “Because we look like a corporate store criminals must have thought it was fair game and that we won’t put up a fight.

“All of a sudden we were getting crime every day. We had to do something.”

Facewatch matches faces against a database of known offenders logged by retailers.

Alex reckons the system should be introduced nationwide to end the shoplifting epidemic. He also thinks it could also help combat a rise in attacks on store workers.
