‘Britain’s kindest plumber’ faces claims over ‘faking tales of serving to folks’

A tradesman dubbed “Britain’s kindest plumber” is facing claims he faked social media posts and exploited vulnerable people.

James Anderson, 56, raised millions of pounds in donations, including cash from actor Hugh Grant.

Anderson runs a charitable company, Depher CIC, which carries out funded home repairs for vulnerable people.

The BBC claimed Anderson posted about saving a suicidal pensioner’s life, but the woman in the photo had in fact died years earlier.

The BBC also claimed that Anderson, who won a Pride Of Britain award, spent funding on a house and a car.

Anderson, of Burnley, Lancs, said: “The BBC News and online trolls are trying to shut Depher CIC community initiative down.”

The Fundraising Regulator said it was investigating the claims.
