Mum mind-blown after recognizing hidden function on McDonald’s Happy Meal packing containers

A mum was stunned after discovering a hidden feature in McDonald’s Happy Meals that she’d never noticed before, despite years of buying them.

McDonald’s Happy Meals have been a staple for many since their launch in 1979. These kids’ boxes, which include a meal and a toy, have remained popular over the decades. So much so, that an adult version of these iconic boxes was introduced last year.

Kirsty Fox, 32, recently discovered that Happy Meal boxes can be transformed into a plate. She made this discovery when she bought her child a treat from the new anime collaboration.

Taking to her TikTok page @kirstyfoxx recently, the mum-of-two said: “Thirty two years old and just finding out that Happy Meal boxes turn into a plate. Am I the last person on the planet to notice this?”

According to Kirsty, who regularly shares parenting-related content and advice on her page, the box now comes with a tab. When pulled, it turns the box into a small plate.

She demonstrated this by pulling on the serrated line of cardboard, and the top of the Happy Meal box came off, leaving her with a medium-sized square box.

The mum said the trick is “the best thing I’ve learned all year.” Some were also shocked by the revelation. “Yikes I’ve been living under a rock I did not know this,” said one. Another added: “Did not know this! Going to do this with the kids now.”

A former McDonald’s worker revealed the feature is a new one, commenting: “Was a manager at a McDonald’s for eight years. This is something new, they haven’t always been like this.”

And a number of Maccies fans confessed they already knew about the hack. One said: “Stop, surely people knew about this. Eight years deep with my step kids in my life – I’ve always known this.” And another added: “I thought this was common knowledge.”
