Trent Alexander-Arnold is left in tears throughout Jurgen Klopp’s farewell speech

Trent Alexander-Arnold couldn’t hold back the tears as Jurgen Klopp bid his farewell to Liverpool on Sunday.

Klopp, 56, has called time on his spell on Merseyside – announcing his decision back in January. Sunday (19 May) was the German’s swansong, and he addressed the Anfield faithful after the full-time whistle.

He explained: “I saw a lot of people crying and it will happen to me tonight because I will miss people. But change is good. You never know what to expect but if you go with the right attitude into everything will be fine because the basics are 100 percent there. “

One of those in tears was Alexander-Arnold, who made his debut under Klopp. “Trent Alexander Arnold has turned from a boy to a man under Jurgen Klopp. Vice Captain of his boyhood club. TAA will be forever grateful to him,” one fan said.

“I wanted to hug him so much in this moment as he was setting off the tears for me as well,” a second said. And another added: “Absolutely broke me!”

Trent Alexander-Arnold was handed his debut by Jurgen Klopp

Alexander-Arnold was already overcome by emotion earlier in the week during an interview with Sky Sports when he was asked why Klopp meant to him: “There’s a clip of my debut, and he [Klopp] goes in for a handshake and I just straight up hug him. That just shows what it meant to me.

“It’s the proudest moment I’ll ever have, being able to make my debut. Him being the manager to give that to me is something I will never be able to repay him for.

“Incredibly special to have been a part of his journey, and he’s somebody I’ll tell my kids and my grandkids about.

Trent Alexander-Arnold wasn’t the only player in tears

“He goes down one of the best ever, for me, whether it’s within Liverpool or within the history of football. What’s he achieved, the way his style and the way he’s implemented the style on the league and on football himself, the intensity he’s brought to it has been incredible.

“I think he’ll go down as one of the greatest to do it, and rightly so.”
