Child dies after ‘falling from upper-floor flat’ in south London

A child has died after ‘falling from upper-floor flat’ in south London.

Police and paramedics rushed to Hotspur Street, Brixton, this afternoon but were unable to save the youngster. 

Police have launched an investigation into the latest tragedy to hit the capital.

It is understood the Metropolitan Police are not treating the death as suspicious but are continuing to probe the incident. 

A force spokesperson said: ‘Police were called at 4.23pm on Friday, May 24, to a child having fallen from the upper floor of a flat on Hotspur Street, SE11.

‘Officers attended along with LAS [London Ambulance Service]. Despite their efforts, the child was pronounced dead. The child’s family have been informed.

‘At this very early stage, there is nothing to indicate that the incident is suspicious, however enquires are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

‘Cordons are in place at the scene.’

Labour MP for Vauxhall Florence Eshalomi said: ‘Very sad to hear about the sad death of a young child who fell from a block of flats earlier this afternoon in Hotspur Street, SE11. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.’
