Royal followers ‘aspire’ to be Princess Margaret with ‘vodka pick-me-ups’ routine

Royal fans have been left stunned by a book describing Princess Margaret’s daily routine, which is said to have included a midday “vodka pick-me-up”.

An extract from Craig Brown’s book ‘Ma’am Darling’ was recently shared on the r/RoyalsGossip Reddit forum, and details the Countess of Snowden’s morning routine during the 1950s.

According to the book, Margaret would rise at 9am for “breakfast in bed, followed by two hours in bed listening to the radio, reading the newspapers (‘which she invariably left scattered over the floor’) and chain-smoking”.

At 11am, she would indulge in an hour-long bath, followed by “hair and make-up at her dressing table” at noon. The book also notes that she would change into “clean clothes” around this time, adding that “as one would imagine of a Princess, she never wore any of her clothes more than once without having them cleaned”.

The princess would then head downstairs “for a vodka pick-me-up” at 12.30pm, as per Brown’s account. The excerpt wraps up by describing how, at 1pm, she would join the Queen Mother “for a four-course lunch ‘served in an informal manner from silver dishes'”.

This would include “half a bottle of wine per person plus ‘fruit and half a dozen different varieties of native and Continental cheeses'”, the book claims

Royal watchers on Reddit have been buzzing about the excerpt – and one aspect in particular. One commented: “I aspire to having vodka pick-me-ups in the middle of the day.”

Another chimed in with: “‘Vodka pick-me-up’ at 12.30. The working classes refer to this as the midday miniature – we’re not so different after all!”

But it wasn’t just the booze that caught people’s attention. The comment about Margaret’s fresh attire led one person to write: “Ok can we talk about the whole she only wore clean clothes ‘as one would imagine of a princess’ bit.” This prompted a humorous response from another user, who said: “The one way I’m like a princess.”
